  • Repeatedly waking up throughout the night
  • Feeling unrested despite sleeping a full night
  • Dry mouth
  • Morning headaches
  • Absence of dreams

Treatment Options

Some lifestyle changes may be possible to help you sleep better at night. Your sleep clinic dentist will be able to recommend any changes that could help improve your sleeping habits.

At Palermo Village Dental, we offer many treatments to help you sleep comfortably and restfully thourhgout the night.

The continuous positive airwar pressure device (CPAP) helps to open the throat to reduce snoring and increase breathing throughout the night. The CPAP is a face mask that is worn throughout the night that provides positive air flow to keep the airways open while you sleep.

Oral appliances are an alternative sleep aid to the CPAP machine. There are many different types of oral appliances available that look similar to a mouthguard athletes wear while playing sports. These appliances promote the opening of the airway to provide a better night’s sleep.

The Solea Sleep laser can treat palatal snoring, the cause for snoring in about 80% of people who snore. Solea uses a specific wavelength, tightening collagen fibres in the soft palate tissue using a laser in one 5-minute session. Tightening the tissue helps to open the airway and reduce vibrations from snoring.

How to Get Started

Palermo Village Dental offers many options to help manage sleep apnea, and it all begins with a sleep study.

Your sleep clinic dentist

Our SleepImage Ring or the MATRx Plus take-home sleep study can assess whether you have sleep apnea and if an oral appliance or CPAP machine might be the best treatment for you.

Once you have completed your sleep study, your dentist will be able to recommend the best option for you.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a condition where a person has disturbed sleep during the night from snoring, stopping breathing, or both.

Many people are unaware they have sleep apnea symptoms until a sleeping partner points it out. If you have regularly broken sleep, or you feel regularly fatigued, you may suffer from sleep apnea.

Sleep studies have evolved with thanks to new technologies. Sleep studies are much more comfortable than they ever have bee. You may be required to wear a dental mandibular positioning device (similar to a mouthguard) or a finger monitor ring.

The sleep apnea treatment that works best for you will be recommended by your sleep clinic dentist. If you find your sleep apnea solution isn’t working for you, we may recommend different treatments.

There may be an adjustment period as you get used to your sleep apnea solution. Many people find success with these devices and experience improved sleep and less restlessness as a result.
