What to Expect When Getting a Dental Bridge

The loss of any teeth can make it difficult to speak and chew and may leave you feeling less like yourself.

A bridge can restore a more natural smile, make it easier to talk and eat, and support the surrounding teeth so they don’t move out of position.

Your Bridge Appointment

Your bridge will typically be created and placed in 2 appointments. In the first appointment, your dentist will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap. A mould or digital image of your mouth will be made to fit the crowns for the supporting teeth and create a replacement for the missing tooth or teeth. You may be fitted with a temporary bridge to wear until your next appointment.

At your next appointment, your dentist will fit you with your permanent bridge. Since we want a strong, comfortable fit, it may take more than one appointment to ensure the final fit before it’s permanently bonded.

Caring for Your Bridge

Your bridge is intended to be a long-lasting solution for your mouth and, with proper care, it can last 10 years or more.

Be sure to care for both your natural and artificial teeth with regular flossing and brushing. Your dentist will demonstrate how to floss around your bridge in particular.
