Complete Dental Care for Long-Term Health

Our comprehensive oral exams are designed to identify, diagnose, and treat dental issues that affect your overall health and smile. When you visit our Oakville dental office regularly for a checkup and hygiene appointment, we’re better able to catch oral health changes while they’re still simple to address.

In your exam, Dr. Blair can identify emerging issues and take action right away.

The Importance of Regular Oral Exams

Your unique dental hygiene schedule is based on your particular health needs. For many patients, this means seeing us every 6 months. But depending on other health conditions, your lifestyle, and how fast tartar builds up on your teeth, we may recommend you book an appointment with us more frequently.

If you’re ever curious about the particular dental schedule we’ve suggested for you or your child, we’re happy to share our approach.

What to Expect in Your Comprehensive Oral Exam

Your first exam with us includes a thorough health history. This lets us understand any conditions or lifestyle factors related to your dental health and any potential dental treatments we may recommend.

When Dr. Blair examines your mouth in the exam, he’s looking for an array of health indicators, including:

  • Damaged, missing, or decayed teeth
  • Signs of cavities
  • The condition of your gums, including inflammation and other signs of gum disease
  • How any previous dental work, including fillings or crowns, are holding up
  • The position of your teeth and signs you might grind your teeth or clench your jaw
  • Any early signs of mouth or throat cancer or suspicious growths

We also perform salivary testing to identify the bacterial cultures present in your mouth. This allows us to assess the cause of any gum disease and treat it more effectively.

Dr. Blair will also examine your neck area, feeling your glands and lymph nodes for any inflammation. We may also take a various dental x-rays to reveal things Dr. Blair can’t see just by looking in your mouth, like bone loss due to gum disease, tooth decay, or issues with cavities under fillings.

After Your Exam

Anytime you get new health information, it can be overwhelming. We always encourage you to ask questions about the results of your exam and let us know if you’d like more information along the way.

Book your appointment today, and be sure to let us know if you have any particular health concerns. We’ll do our best to put your mind at ease.
